Interview Craig Watkins aka Wotto
Heute im Interview Wotto. Der Designer unseres neuen Lieblings Shirt im Shop. Wotto ist eigentlich Craig und kommt aus UK. Was er sonst noch zu sagen hat verrät er euch selbst!

Hey Craig. Just a short biography, please.
… My name is Craig Watkins aka wotto, I am a 32 year old English guy with a passion for characters. I am an illustrator and T-shirt designer with 10 years experience. I currently live in Scotland, UK.
And what is the history behind your two printed designs?
… Well „White Wash“ was the first design I had printed at ABT, it really centred around white splashes of paint and doodling. I wanted to create a one colour shirt design with many elements that could be looked at regularly and new things could be found on it.
My third design and second print, „Life, Death & Doodles“ is much darker looking at everything from our beginnings to our ends. It’s really about all of us and how we all die in the end. The doodling is what i am known for best and I hope to leave my style behind for others to see. I guess it’s just me recognising that I am mortal and so is everything else around me.
Where are you now located? Tell us about your current business and projects.
… I am currently in the UK but i would like to move to O.C in the USA. I am currently an art curator for Teefury.com, a partner in Dekay Clothing and I have also just started printing my own limited edition tees in my online shop, www.wotto.bigcartel.com
Well, what would you suggest to a newbie, who just starting his or her career as a designer?
… Work hard, be commited and don’t be afraid to get a door slammed in your face. Create your own style and don’t be afraid to stand out from the crowd. People can recognise my work now just from my individual style and that’s something that I have worked hard at and developed my whole life.
Who are your favorite designers and artists around the world? Why?
… Joe Sorren is simple amazing, his work is dark and beautiful all at once. Hundertwasser is a genius at expressing colour and light and I think he is a very underappreciated artist. I love street art and have a huge influence from that area. Graffiti has always played a big role in developing my style.
What do you think about communities these days?
… I think online communities are amazing. I really like the honesty of ABT and how you can see who is scoring what. It’s a brave move but one I totally respect. ABT has no secrets, no bullshit and a very welcoming community spirit. It is fast becoming one of my favourite places to hang out. Now I just need to learn german!
Do you work on Mac or PC? Why did you choose this platform?
… I used to be PC but switched to Mac 2 years ago. I have never looked back. Mac is more reliable. Simple.
Do you play videogames?
… I used to, I simple don’t have the time these days.
What are your hobbies?
… Downhill Mountain Biking is a hobby of mine and I love to travel.
What is THE place on earth you would like to visit?
… There are many, I’d really like to go to Japan and also see more of America.
How many hours do you work, and what is stress for you?
… I work none Stop. I constantly doodle and have done for many years. I have a mountain of drawings and sketchbooks. Stress is a client who doesn’t really know what they want and make constant changes to a design.
Latest movie you liked?
… Slumdog Millionaire was the last film I saw on the big screen. I was impressed. I am ridiculously excited to see the ‚Where The Wild Things Are“ movie due for release soon. It is, in my opinion one of the best illustrated books ever made.
What’s your favorite sites? Why?
… ABT, great community.
Emptees.com, good Tips and industry chat, supportive community
Threadless.com, losts of design friends hang out there, my first tee was printed there and again a good community.
Any plans for the Wotto project in the future?
… I am currently working on my own range of tees. I am also painting a lot and I am hoping to be featured in galleries in the near future. I’ll continue to design T-shirts and anything else I am asked to.
My tees are availabe via my website (shop) HYPERLINK “http://www.wotto.co.uk” www.wotto.co.uk.
Thanks ABT, keep up the great work!
